Media of the Day grammatical error (2026-08-19)

[edit]

The caption reads, "The aperture blades of a Hasselblad L3D-100c camera closing to from f/2 to f/11..." The first instance of the word "to" should be removed so it says "closing from f/2 to f/11". = paul2520 💬 11:27, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unilaterally closing deletion request, ignoring valid arguments, no dialogue

[edit]

I never used to nominate pornographic images for deletion because I had little exposure to them, since curating that kind of content is not really something that interests me. When I happened to notice an image of this sort that in my view, was gratuitous and did very little to illustrate the subject it was supposedly meant to help illustrate, I nominated it for deletion, making a clear argument and not repeating the irrelevant points made in the two other nominations, which were submitted by inexperienced users.

A week passed, and administrator ChemSim (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log closed the request as "kept", unilaterally stating there were no grounds for deletion, even though I had provided them. When I reopened the request and asked for some dialogue, I was rollbacked. Is that how things work around here now? It never seemed that way to me.

Compare this with this deletion request, in which the "argument" (a mere hyperlink) is for the deletion of a media file that is arguably better than the one that was kept and which forces anyone viewing it to fill in the surrounding context in order to understand what it is about, making it of limited educational value. Yacàwotçã (talk) 11:55, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Yacàwotçã: First of all, the deletion request was closed two times before because the file is valid for Wikimedia Commons. In addition, you are not allowed to undo closings of deletion request just by rolling back my actions. This will not reopen the deletion request within the system. If you don't agree with my decision, feel free to open a new deletion request. Normally, deletion requests will be closed after seven days, so there is nothing wrong from my side. Best, ChemSim (Talk) 12:01, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@ChemSim: Rolling back an Admin's close is an attack on the Admin's integrity, and disruptive to our DR process. I propose a boomerang.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:11, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Yacàwotçã: I believe that ChemSim was correct here. The fact that we have another image that takes an entirely different approach to illustrating the same sexual position (and which, unfortunately in my view, includes a total porn cliche expression on the woman's face) is not at all a reason to delete this image. While we certainly run a tighter rein on sexual images than on images in general, and are much more likely to delete an image simply for being redundant, the image you mentioned as an alternative is not a reasonable substitute for this one. - Jmabel ! talk 20:27, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the keep. This is an educational file that illustrates a sexual position. Abzeronow (talk) 22:07, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion request: File:Amsterdam Flames.png (Copyvio)

[edit]

An administrator is requested to review and delete File:Amsterdam Flames.png.

  • Reason: Unambiguous copyright violation / falsified "own work" claim. It is a copyrighted team logo sourced directly from their official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/share/1EtCjNRKu3/
  • Context: The uploader (Sagarsq (talk · contribs)) has an extensive history of uploading non-free logos under false CC0 claims (11+ files previously deleted for copyvio).

The file is tagged with {{Copyvio}}, but requires administrative action to clear. Thank you. Ravana TALK 03:01, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Technical issue help

[edit]

Good day! Can anyone help in fixing the import that I made just now? I ran into some technical issue which made the file name valid but likely an empty file. Regards, JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 10:17, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@JWilz12345 The file in Commons looks fine to me. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 10:46, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please create Category talk:XY-axis T-shirt printing

[edit]

Hello :) I'm blocked by an interesting automated block preventing me to both create Category:XY-axis T-shirt printing or create its talk page, even if I'm autopatrolled.

I'm going to upload this video I've made during m:Event:GRADE-Paris2026 in Paris:

https://t.me/ItalianLinuxSociety/30/21990

Thanks :) bozz (talk) 12:40, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I've solved by finding another title, but maybe you are still interested in double-checking this block, to do not affect autopatrolled users. What do you think about? :) bozz (talk) 12:59, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Valerio Bozzolan: "Warning: This page can only be edited by administrators and other users with the tboverride right because it matches the following disallowed titles list entry:
.*(?<!category:)(?<!category talk:)t(?:ee)?.?shirts? (printing|quilt|everywhere|design|online|(to|on|in) |buy).*"   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:05, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jeff G.: Yep. I still wonder if it's intentional that autopatrollers are blocked by that specific thing. bozz (talk) 13:13, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Valerio Bozzolan: I guess some people abusively used WMF wikis to host images of t-shirts they were selling using nonfree designs, and Meta Admins designed that string in m:MediaWiki:Titleblacklist to stop those people.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:19, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Designs wouldn't even have to be non-free to be a problem if they were using Commons to hawk a product. - Jmabel ! talk 03:15, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ah thanks! I understand now this is just the default in every wiki. I'm still curious why MediaWiki does not give tboverride to autopatrolled users as default, but I'm off topic. Thanks again :3 bozz (talk) 10:22, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Valerio Bozzolan: Granting that right to only Admins and Template Editors here on Commons could be altered via COM:VPP. You could also apply for membership in "Template editors" at COM:RFR.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:56, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jmabel: It seems that in this case the video is documenting the printing hardware and action, rather than hawking the finished shirt or the design thereon.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:12, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jeff G.: Understood, I wasn't suggesting Valerio Bozzolan was doing anything wrong.I was just saying that "nonfree designs" wasn't the issue the filter meant to address, it was hawking. - Jmabel ! talk 17:16, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
